The gigantic chestnut tree that used to grow at this location,  died a few years ago. A new tree is planted, but is in an early stage. For this new site specific work, I researched roots and their growth patterns. I was also fascinated by the trees that were blown down and whose root structure curled through the air like a fan. I imagined this 3.5 meter high fan would be visible from a distance and people would be able to sit on the horizontal trunk.

To realize this project I collaborated with MX3D. With this amazing team, we developed these root structures as if they were actually growing from the square itself. They are printed from stainless steel. Drawings were made by Boyan Mihaylov. The work is commissioned by the city of Amsterdam, with support from the AFK. Produced by Harold Schouten (the Wise guys) and installed by MX3D and Kunstwacht.
