Craft ! Now, museum CODA

In a world of artificial intelligence, online interaction and digital design, the importance of handicraft and traditional craftsmanship in the visual arts might seem to be disappearing into the background. We can no longer take it for granted that knowledge will be passed on through the generations and some centuries-old techniques are in danger of being lost. But the pleasure of making things yourself and the longing for and appreciation of the slowness of the process have not gone away. In fact, a growing number of artists are turning to centuries-old methods and classical crafts to fully explore them or to combine them with innovative techniques and sustainable materials. The result: striking, colourful and exciting works that surprise and inspire. From 19 November 2023 to 14 April 2024 the exhibition Craft! Now in CODA Museum examines the meaning and importance of craft and craftmanship in the visual arts with the work of ten contemporary artists.
